Amjad Ali Khan is one of the undisputed masters of the music world. Born to sarod maestro Haafiz Ali Khan, he is the sixth generation in the legendary line of the Senia Bangash School. Since giving his first performance at the age of six, he has played for audiences worldwide, bringing a new and yet timeless interpretation to the repertoire, while being widely credited with reinventing the technique of playing the sarod.

Bach Cello Suites Festival

The second show of the GPS.

Sandler Center’s season of full-spectrum Bach continues with this dynamic and inventive presentation of Bach’s six magical cello suites. For cellists, playing all six is often seen as the ‘Mount Everest’ of the cello repertoire, but rarely are they performed by such a diverse collection of artists using a wide variety of approaches to the master’s spectacular work. Three suites exemplify the beauty of traditional solo cello format, while three suites burst to life through innovative interpretations incorporating elements of dance, theater, jazz or voice offering audiences a one-of-a-kind encounter with this timeless body of work.

The Brooklyn Manila Project: Virginia Beach

Originally commissioned by Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, in New York City, this family-friendly program carries the audience to the Philippines on a historic journey from tribal to modern times. Masterfully weaving a rich tapestry of western classical groove with traditional and innovative Filipino music, modern dance, martial arts, and multi-media content, the story of Filipino life, experience, growth and globalization unfold.

Born into a long lineage of Louisiana musicians, Jon Batiste is a globally celebrated musician, educator, bandleader and television personality whose musical skill, artistic vision and exuberant charisma has made him a triple threat and the newly “crowned prince of jazz.” Jon delicately balances a demanding schedule on screen and on stage —which includes his role as Bandleader and Musical Director with the Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Jon released his first solo album, Hollywood Africans in 2018 which was nominated for a GRAMMY award for “St. James Infirmary” and an NAACP Image award for Best Jazz album.
