Event Update:
The Sandler Center, Virginia Arts Festival, and Virginia Symphony Orchestra's top priorities are the health and safety of all our patrons, artists, volunteers, and staff. In alignment with statewide restrictions on public gatherings and the continued threat of COVID-19, the Beethoven Celebration event, scheduled for January 10, 2021, will be postponed to June 2021.
"This decision was not made lightly, but the safety of our patrons, artists, and staff remains paramount," says Robert W. Cross, Perry Artistic Director, Virginia Arts Festival. "While we are all looking forward to the Beethoven Celebration with live music from the Virginia Symphony Orchestra musicians conducted by JoAnn Falletta and Olga Kern on piano, we must make the difficult decision in the best interest of all. Thank you for your patience and understanding," says Karen Philion, President and CEO, Virginia Symphony Orchestra.
Your tickets for the Beethoven Celebration performance will automatically be moved to the rescheduled date. We will advise you of the new dates as soon as possible. No action is necessary from you.
The Sandler Center and Virginia Arts Festival Box Office agents are working to accommodate individual patrons' needs. Due to the anticipated volume, we ask for your patience as we address each case.
Presented by Virginia Arts Festival. Co-presented with Virginia Symphony Orchestra.
An emotional farewell, a brilliant first, and a momentous birthday celebration…all in one spectacular concert!
Marking her final season as Music Director of the Virginia Symphony Orchestra, Grammy Award-winning conductor JoAnn Falletta leads the orchestra, soloists and the Virginia Symphony Chorus in Beethoven's soaring Ninth Symphony, with its beloved anthem "Ode to Joy"--and Van Cliburn Gold Medalist Olga Kern makes her VSO debut performing one of Beethoven's most beloved works for piano, the Emperor Concerto. It’s all part of the worldwide celebration of Ludwig van Beethoven’s 250th birthday, and it promises to be the musical event of the season.
Performance length is 120 minutes total, including an intermission.
Pre-concert lecture beginning at 2 PM, free to ticket-holders.
