Presented by Virginia Arts Festival
One of the most acclaimed ensembles of all chamber music, the famed Brentano Quartet has performed around the world for more than 25 years. In addition to performing the core quartet repertoire, the Brentano Quartet showcases both very old and very new music, performing ancient works by Purcell and Gesualdo alongside contemporary music by Elliott Carter, Charles Wuorinen, Bruce Adolphe, and more. Whatever the repertoire, their performances are marked by passion and a musical communion that is as breathtaking to watch as it is to hear. For their Festival performances, in honor of Beethoven’s 250th birthday, the quartet will perform an all-Beethoven program—not to be missed!
Program:
- Johann Sebastian Bach (German; 1685-1750) - Prelude in F minor, BWV 881 (1742)
- Franz Joseph Haydn (Austrian; 1732-1809) - String Quartet in F minor, Op.20, No.5 (1772)
- Igor Stravinsky (Russian; 1882-1971) - Concertino, for string quartet (1920)
- Felix Mendelssohn (German; 1809-1847) - String Quartet No.6 in F minor, Op.80 (1847)
Due to socially distanced seating requirements, tickets are limited for these performances. Tickets will be sold through VAF only for this event and are sold in pods.
